The Meydum Pyramid is located in Meydum, Lower Egypt. It was probably completed by Snefru (3rd Dynasty) c. 2600 B.C. Its core was built of local stone blocks weighing an average of 1 1/2 tons per block. It is the first true pyramid. It underwent several stages of development. Started as a seven-stepped pyramid, an eighth step was subsequently added. The surface was then filled in with a casing of polished Tura limestone giving the building its sloping sides.
