Course Description:

A general survey of World Civilization emphasizing the political, intellectual, economic, and cultural developments, which have helped shape our modern society. The course will cover the prehistoric period to 1500.

Text: Duiker, William J. and Jackson J. Spielvogel. The Essential World History Vol. 1 To 1800.

Attendance Policy:

Roll will be taken every class period. If you come late, you will be counted as absent. After three absences your grade will be dropped by one letter. After four absences you will receive an "F."

You are responsible for material missed due to absence.

Exams and Gordon Rule:

There will be two exams.

1st Exam- 50% Monday, 1 June.
2nd Exam- 50% Monday, 22 June.

Exams will include essay and map sections.

Exams will fulfill the Gordon Rule requirement, so there will be no paper, but you will be expected to demonstrate an ability to use the English language.

Anyone caught cheating will automatically fail the course.
The 2nd exam is scheduled for: Thursday, 19 June.
Make-up exams will only be given to students with legitimate excuses.

A grade of C or better is needed to satisfy the Gordon Rule.


Grade Calculations: 90–100% = A
80–89% = B
70–79% = C
60–69% = D
59 or below = YOU KNOW WHAT!
Remember Grades are earned, not given; therefore if you earn an A you will receive an A; if you earn an F you will receive an F.
